Print Ready PDF Files are files that are ready to print without modification while producing the intended results.When creating a document in a graphic program, Adobe, CANVA, etc. create the document in the size you want it to be when finished. Use imperial measurements as the stock sizes we print on in Canada use imperial measures. (many on-line programs create A4 /metric size templates that are slightly different in size to imperial) Standard letter size page is 8.5x11. When designing a full colour background where you don’t want a white border you need to create the background larger than the page size to “cut into the bleed” to the size the finished print should be. Example for a 2” x 3.5” business card with a background colour the image would need to be 2.25” x 3.75” Be sure to keep any graphics/text .25” from the border of the page to prevent text from getting cut off. Save the file as a pdf for print format. Include cropmarks and bleeds if needed. If an option allows “flatten pdf” as well as choose “CMYK” colour profile. Some things to keep in mind when designing: Font size, when you are looking at your project on you monitor and zoomed in, it is larger than when you have the printed copy in your hand, for example a business card… I recommend a minimum size 8 font or larger. Screens make the artwork appear brighter as they are backlit, when printing it will appear darker.
